Our mission at the Hettinger County Sheriff’s Office is:

Administrative services are available during office hours, Monday - Thursday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., and Friday 8:00 a.m. - 12 p.m. The office is closed on weekends and federal holidays. Hettinger County Sheriff's office reserves the right to postpone or decline a service request under exceptional circumstances.

We furnish public records in compliance with 5 U.S.C. § 552, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) within a reasonable amount of time. Records which are not subject FOIA requests include juvenile records (some exceptions apply), active investigations and cases which are not yet adjudicated, case materials which did not originate from Hettinger County Sheriff’s Office, and some personnel records. Hettinger County Sheriff’s Office will not generate reports or materials to fulfill a FOIA request for a record that does not exist and may withhold certain materials which may be sensitive in nature, when directed to do so by the Hettinger County State's Attorney's Office.

HCSO will investigate reports of identity theft. Gather all available accompanying documents to be reviewed by the investigating deputy. You are entitled to receive a copy of your incident report free of charge.

Report the identity theft to the card issuer or financial institution to prevent additional charges on the account. 

Hettinger County participates in the North Dakota 24/7 Sobriety Program. This program consists of an Alcohol Monitoring portion (twice daily breath tests or ankle monitor) and the Drug Patch portion. For more information about this program, please refer to

Individuals charged with, convicted of, or has an alcohol or drug-related offense may be court-ordered to enroll in the program as directed by their court-ordered conditions of release, sentence etc. Individuals required to enroll in the 24/7 Program must first contact our office to schedule an in-person appointment to enroll for compliance with the court order.
