Tax Director

Tax Director General Duties include:

  • Locate and identify all real property in the county.
  • Inventory all real property.
  • Determine tax status of each property.
  • Estimate true and full value of each property.
  • Prepare and certify the assessment list.
  • Notify property owners of any increase in property value.
  • Create, update and maintain property cards.
  • Provide training and assistance to local assessors.
  • Attend and facilitate local boards of equalization.

Additional responsibilities include administering incentives for new or expanding businesses, property tax exemptions, homestead credits, disabled veterans property tax credit, and abatement requests. The office also oversees the taxation of all mobile homes. ANYONE MOVING A MOBILE HOME INTO HETTINGER COUNTY MUST FILE A REGISTRATION FORM WITH THIS OFFICE. Mobile home moving permits are available as well.
